A Cowboy’s Work is Never Done
June 28, 2009
I know it’s been more than a week since I last updated but I never promised I would update frequently. The time since I’ve moved home has been quite up and down and I’ve been busy sorting a lot of things out. Mostly job hunting, I have now applied to several places in Louth for normal jobs including:
- A.W Curtis – A butchers/bakers/cake makers. I had an interview there on Saturday, which I think went rather well, it’s not reporting and I’m not that keen onit but it’s money to get me started so hey, at least there’s the experience behind it if I do get it.
- Boots Pharmacy – No reply as of yet.
- Igloo Seafood and,
- Louth and District Hospice.
I have also been sending out applications left right and centre for press jobs, especially after my mums revelation that there’s always a way to sort out a place to stay for the dream job, these include:
- Grimsby Telegraph,
- Louth Leader,
- Basildon Council,
- Mouchel and Middlesbrough council,
- The Lancashire Evening Post,
Tomorrow gonna be sending applications to:
- The Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard,
- The North Devon Journal, just a note with this one, I had to spend a time writing out a personal statement, plus answering three 350word limit questions, fun, fun, fun.
And going to be looking into a job in the NHS in Wakefield Yorkshire.
I realise this post is mostly lists at the moment but I wanted to update on the job hunt. It’s a very difficult process and I’ve found that I’ve had to re-write my CV a number of times, plus cover letters. Information accumulates on them, although I’ve managed to keep both between one and two pages which is good.
Application forms themselves are a hassle, and I’ve found myself procrastinating a couple of times over having to repeat the same information over and over again, it’s a laborious task and I find myself dreaming of actually getting a job just so I can stop filling the damn things in!
Event wise there hasn’t been much happening really, and I doubt there will until I actually do get some money in, I’m looking forward to trying to attend a couple of things and reporting back to you on them. In the meantime I’ll give you my opinion on a book I finished reading recently.
Dark Lady by Richard North Patterson is a psychological thriller about an ambitious Assistant County Prosecutor who gets caught up in a “web of deceit” after her ex -boyfriend/lover is brutally murdered. As she follows the clues to find his killer and the killer of another man, she finds a lot more truth and deadly secrets under the covers of her rose-tinted world.
The story itself is quite plausible, the twists and turns both predictable but also surprising how they are played out. The problem I had with this book was the pacing, as Stella Marz, the main character continues on her journey her own mind set seems to flip surprisingly fast and without as much prodding as you’d think. Her jump to conclusions about midway through the book as enough reason to be, but I don’t think it was explored as much as it could have been, the writer seeming to want to cut the book down, when it would have been better to extend it.
All in all though a good read, I’ve moved onto J.G. Ballard’s Super-Cannes now which is also good, the same kind of storyline but I’m a lot more drawn into it. More on that at a later date.
Other than that not much of importance has really happened, it’s felt like a lot more due to mundane house tasks and day-to-day routine added on, but it’s going ok. I really can’t wait to get some money though, much better then.
I’ll try to start updating more frequently.
